Staying ahead in rural healthcare means more than managing day-to-day hospital operations — it means being present for the conversations that shape the future of the industry. That’s why Aletheia Health Partners made CEO Day at the Capitol, hosted by Hometown Health LLC, a priority, joining hospital executives, state legislators, agency commissioners, and healthcare advocates from across Georgia for a day of high-level dialogue on the policies, funding, and trends defining rural healthcare in our state.
Why Aletheia Shows Up
The rural healthcare landscape is constantly shifting. Reimbursement models are evolving, federal and state funding streams are in flux, and the legislative environment can change quickly. For hospitals, that uncertainty has real consequences on budgets, operations, workforce planning, and ultimately patient care.
Aletheia Health Partners brings transparency and high-level insights to the table in tandem with valuable data analytics. Our team works to stay at the forefront of healthcare policy, regulatory changes, and industry trends — so that the hospitals we serve don’t have to navigate the landscape alone. Participating in events like CEO Day at the Capitol is part of that commitment. When we’re in the room for these discussions, not only can we bring information directly back to the communities and hospitals that need it most, but we’re also able to strengthen advocacy for rural healthcare.
What Was on the Table
This year’s conversations covered a wide range of topics critical to rural hospital leaders across Georgia, including:
- RHTP Funding – The distribution and use of $218 million in federal Rural Health Transformation Program funds, and what it means for hospitals in Georgia.
- Rural Hospital Tax Credits & HB 662 – Proposed new definitions of “rural hospital,” including Rural Emergency Hospitals (REHs)
- Value-Based Care – How rural hospitals can proactively embrace value-based models rather than react to them
- Telemedicine – Expanding specialty access, reducing unnecessary patient transfers, and keeping patients closer to home
- Medical Education & Residencies – Efforts to grow Georgia’s rural physician pipeline and improve training infrastructure within rural hospitals
- Behavioral Health – Ongoing funding gaps driven by outdated state population data, and the need for recalculation
- EMS Sustainability – Ambulance capacity challenges and potential federal funding solutions
- Legislative Experience Gaps – The challenge of educating a new generation of legislators on rural healthcare issues as seasoned leaders move on to higher office
Notable Voices in the Room
The depth of the conversation was reflected in the caliber of attendees. Among the notable participants were DCH Commissioner Dean Burke, MD, who emphasized that financial stability must translate into measurable health outcomes; DBHDD Commissioner Kevin Tanner, who announced four new behavioral health crisis centers coming to Georgia; Representative Debbie Buckner (District 137), who raised important concerns around behavioral health funding and medical education; Representative Noel Williams, Jr (District 148), who offered remarks on the Georgia HEART program; Senator Sam Watson who listened to concerns from hospital CEOs and shared developments on bringing medical education to South Georgia through PCOM South Georgia in Moultrie (https://www.pcom.edu/south-georgia/); and Jimmy Lewis, CEO of Hometown Health, alongside Senator Watson, sounded the alarm on preserving institutional healthcare knowledge in the legislature.
